Important Information
For your convenience, you can register your vehicles while completing your reservation online. This will save you time at check-in. If you do not register your vehicles online, plate numbers MUST be registered at the office during check-in.
Alcoholic Beverages are NOT permitted in any New Jersey State Park Service Area.
Pets are NOT permitted in the camping area. Service dogs registered through ADA are welcome. A valid copy of a rabies certificate is required.
Black Bears are present in New Jersey. During your stay keep all coolers and food-associated items in the trunk of your car, with the windows up, at all times. Garbage can be disposed of at the bear-proof dumpsters behind the main office. There are also bins for recycling.
Hiking Trails are for foot-traffic only. Bicycles and motor vehicles are not permitted on trails.
Firewood is not furnished at campsites but can be purchased at the office during business hours.
Quiet Hours are observed between 10:00pm - 6:00am daily. Please call New Jersey State Park Police at 1-877-927-6337 to report noise complaints.
Visitors are allowed at camping facilities between 8:00am - 8:00pm. They may be subject to an extra car fee.
CAMPSITES must be reserved for a minimum of 2 consecutive nights. (Same-day bookings can be made for just 1 night). The maximum length of stay in a campsite is 14 consecutive nights. 2 vehicles are permitted at a site. There is a 6-person max per site. Campsites must be reserved by someone 18 years of age or older, and they shall occupy and be responsible for the site during the rental period.
GROUP CAMPSITES may be reserved for a minimum of 1 night and up to a 14 night maximum length of stay. More than 2 vehicles are permitted at group campsites. Our group campsites can accommodate up to 35 people, with a minimum of 7 people. Each group site has a bear box for food storage.
Refund Policy for tent/trailer campsites: If you cancel your reservation, a two-night use fee is deducted from any refund due. (example: If your reservation was for two nights, you will not receive a refund. If you reserved for three nights, you will get one night back.) Refunds are not given in the event of inclement weather. You can change your dates—this must be done before your reservation starts.
**Please Note** As of January 16, 2019, the smoking of tobacco and use of electronic smoking (vaping) devices (outside of private vehicles) is prohibited in all State Parks, Forests, Historic Sites, and Recreation Areas including camping areas. *Please take into account that our campground road is narrow and you may meet other cars or trailers while driving down to your campsite. There are several pull-offs to allow other vehicles to pass, but some sections do not have a pull-off. The road is also used by pedestrians and cyclists. Drive slowly!
Facility Details
The Worthington State Forest campground offers 23 tent-only, 52 tent/trailer campsites accommodating a maximum of 6 people per site, and 3 group sites with a maximum capacity of 35 people per site. Each campsite has a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern holder and is within walking distance to showers and bathrooms. Dumpsters and recycling bins are located behind the park office. Group sites have a bear proof food storage locker on site. A small picnic area is also available on a first come/first served basis and offers picnic tables and charcoal grills. Firewood is sold at the main office during business hours.
Attraction Details
Jenny Jump State Forest, Swartswood State Park, and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DWGNRA) including; Bushkill Falls, Dingmans Falls, and Millbrook Village are all within reasonable driving distance. Please contact the DWGNRA for information regarding their attractions (570-426-2452). Turtle Beach- a swimming area within the DWGNRA, is located approximately 4 miles north of Worthington’s entrance. The Lakota Wolf Preserve is located in Columbia, NJ (908-496-9244). The McDade Recreational Trail, a walking/bike path, can be accessed off Route 209 in Pennsylvania (Route 80 W to exit 309).

Recreation opportunities are limitless within Worthington. Visitors may choose from a day of birding, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, or taking a float down the picturesque Delaware River. Many visitors choose a day of hiking on our 26 miles of scenic trails, including a 7 mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail. In addition to the Mt. Tammany and Sunfish Pond hikes, hikers may wish to pick up one of our self-guided brochures and explore the Rockcores Trail. Worthington is also a popular destination for birders throughout the year; you may even witness the beauty of a bald eagle swooping down to catch its prey along the Delaware River. The park is also a well-known destination for participants in the world series of birding. Park visitors are welcome to bring their own canoes or kayaks to access the river via our free boat launch. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards can also be rented directly from the main office from spring to early fall. Visitors and campers can also sign up for archery through the main office. Archery programs are available on weekends from spring to fall. Fishing is available year-round off the banks of the Delaware (NJ fishing license is required). The river offers several species of fish including; Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Channel Catfish. The spring run of American Shad is always a highlight to the fishing season at Worthington.
Orientation
Located along the Kittatiny Ridge and bordering the Delaware River, Worthington State Forest offers some of the most rugged terrain and splendid views of northwestern New Jersey. Also within the park are two of the State's natural areas; the Dunnfield Creek Natural Area and the Sunfish Pond Natural Area.
Directions
From Points East: Take Route 80 West to the last exit (Exit 1) in New Jersey (Millbrook/Flatbrookville). At bottom of ramp, bear right. Wait for the green signal at the 3-minute traffic light. DO NOT RUN THE RED LIGHT. This is a narrow one-way section of road. The Forest Office is three miles up on the left.

In winter, Google Maps will list Old Mine Road as closed for the season. Please note that the NJ State Park side from Route 80 north to the Worthington campground is open year round. National Park Service will close the road north of Worthington State Forest at the first snowfall or January 1st, whichever happens first. If you have questions about the NPS section of Old Mine Road, please direct them to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
