IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!

The Sawmill Campground is primarily for TENT camping. Many of our sites require a short walk of anywhere from 100-250 feet from your vehicle to the campsite itself. If you will be staying in a camper, your vehicle  or need to have immediate access to your vehicle at all times, you MUST select a TRAILER  campsite. A TENT campsite cannot accomodate any equipment other than tents.  Also, keep in mind we have NO HOOKUPS for water, septic or electric.

When making your reservation be sure you are booking the correct type of campsite for the equipment you will be bringing. If you have additional questions regarding campsites please call the office at 973-875-4800.

Important Information

Cancellation Policy -  If you are unable to make your scheduled dates, you can make a change to your reservation for a $5.00 fee. Changes must be made prior to your check in date and time.

If you are unable to reschedule, the cancellation policy for campsite (tents, trailers, primitive campsite, group campsites, wilderness campsite) is: $40 NJ Resident/$50 Out of State Resident or a two night use fee (whichever is less) and any transaction fee paid will be deducted from refund due.

The cancellation policy for all other overnight facilities (cabins, group cabins, shelters, and lean-to) depends on when the cancellation is made.  If you cancel seven days or less prior to your check-in date, one night use fee and any transaction fee will be deducted from refund due.  If you cancel eight days or more prior to your check-in date, only the transaction fee paid will be deducted from refund due.

Check-In - Check-in is mandatory and required upon your arrival at the Park. Check-in is available during office hours. Should you arrive when the office is closed, you may proceed to your facility and check in the following morning when the office re-opens. Please refer to your confirmation email, as check-in times vary by facility.

Alcoholic Beverages are NOT permitted in any New Jersey State Park Service Area.

Smoking and Vaping is not permitted in any New Jersey State Park Service Area.

Pets are permitted ONLY in specified camp sites.

Black bears are present in New Jersey. During your stay at the park, all coolers and food-related items must be stored in the trunk of your vehicle at all times. Garbage should be promptly removed from your campsite and put in the appropriate trash receptacle.

Ticks are present in New Jersey and at our campsites.  For information on how to prevent tick bites that may transmit disease please visit https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/index.html

Minimum Age – camping facilities and sites must be reserved by at least 1 person 18 years of age or older, who shall occupy and be responsible for the facility or site during the rental period.

Firewood – Firewood is not furnished at campsites or cabins, but can be purchased at the office during business hours.

Visitors are allowed at camping facilities and cabins between the hours of 8:00am – 8:00pm. If visitors choose to enter the Day Use area entrance fees will be charged from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Quiet hours are observed between 10:00pm – 6:00am.

CAMPSITES – Must be reserved for a minimum of 2 nights. The maximum length of stay in a campsite is 14 consecutive nights. There is a maximum of 2 vehicles per site. Parking for additional vehicles is available in a nearby overflow lot with an additional charge of $5 per night per vehicle. Please contact the Park Office for specific details regarding multiple vehicles.

GROUP CAMPSITES - May be reserved for a minimum of 1 night up to a 14 night maximum length of stay. More than 2 vehicles are permitted on group campsites, however upon registration you will only be allowed a maximum of 2. Upon check in all vehicles on your site will be required to be registered.

GROUP CABIN – Must be reserved for a minimum of 2 nights. The maximum length of stay in the group cabin is 14 consecutive nights.

CABINS – From the third week of June through the day after Labor Day family cabins must be reserved for a period of either 7 or 14 consecutive nights. Prior to the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and after Labor Day cabins can be reserved for a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 14 consecutive nights.

Site Specific Information

Cabin

Pets are not permitted in our cabins.

DIRECTIONS: Our cabins are located on Steenykill Lake. From the park office, take Route 23 North for approximately 1/2 mile. Make a right onto the Family Cabins road. Follow to cabins 1 or 2. 

Check-in time is 3:00pm. Check-out time is 11:00am.

If you arrive after the Park Office is closed, you will pick up your key at the Park Office on the side Employee Entrance of the building. Open the first door and your key will be hanging inside and to your right.

Both cabins have a 16'x24' living room with a woodstove for heat in cooler months, and picnic tables and benches for eating. Firewood is NOt provided but is available for purchase at the Park Office during business hours. 

Each cabin has 3 bedrooms. One bedroom contains a double bed and the other two bedrooms contain 2 twin beds each. You will need to bring all bedding with you, sheets, pillows, sleeping bags as no housekeeping services are provided. 

The Cabins have a small kitchen, with a refrigerator with freezer, a cooking stove and oven, and indoor bathroom with a shower.  towels and cooking utensils. The cabins do not have small appliances like a coffee pot, toaster or microwave.  

There is a one week minimum to rent cabins from the last full week in June through Labor Day.

During the one week minimum cabin stays are as follows:

Cabin 1: Saturday to Saturday

Cabin 2:  Sunday to Sunday

Group Cabin

The Group Cabin can accomodate a grand total of 28 people maximum. 

There are 2 separate bunkrooms, each room accomodates 14 people in seven sets of bunk beds. Each bunkroom has an adjacent restroom with full ADA accessible facilities. (ie: toilets, sinks and showers)

The Group Cabin contains a wood stove, refrigertor with freezer, a cooking stove and oven, and an indoor bathroom with showers. You will need to bring your own sheets, towels and cooking utensils. The Group Cabin does not have any small appliances like a coffee pot, toaster or microwave.

The Group cabin permit holder will receive up to a maximum of 10 free parking permits to use for the duration of your reservation. Any additional vehicles entering the Day Use Area will pay the appropriate entrance fees.

Group Campsite

DIRECTIONS: From the Park Office, take Route 23 North for about 1/4 mile. Turn Left onto Sawmill Road. Make a quick Right onto Park Ridge Road. The Group Campsites will be about 1/2 mile in on your right. 

There is a composting pit toilet on each Group Site. Potable water is available across the street from the pump at the entrance to the Group Cabin.

Potable water access is limited during the months of October through May. Please contact the Park Office for more information regarding Winter Group Camping.

The Group Campsite permit holder will receive up to a maximum of 9 free parking permits to use for the duration of your reservation. Any additional vehicles entering the Day Use Area will pay the appropriate entrance fees. 

3/7/22 - UPDATE - Due to the removal of Ash Trees throughout the park Group Campsite B now has limited shade. You may wish to bring pop-up tents and tarps as most of the site is now in full sun.

Pet Friendly

Pets will be allowed in designated Pet Friendly campsites only. Two pets are allowed per campsite for an additional fee. Proof of rabies, distemper and license must be provided upon check in unless uploaded while making your reservation.  PETS WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO STAY OVERNIGHT WITHOUT THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTION!

Tent

Pets are only permitted on our pet friendly campsites.

DIRECTIONS: From the Park Office, take Route 23 North for about 1/4 mile. Turn Left onto Sawmill Road. Follow Sawmill Road about 2 miles and Sawmill Camping Area will be on your left. The campground loop is one-way. You will pass the exit and the entrance will be shortly ahead on your left. 

Every campsite has a picnic table as well as a fire ring with a grill.

There is no water, electric or sewer available at tent sites.  Water pumps and toilets are located within walking distance of all sites.  There are no sinks or running water in the bathrooms.

There is room to park 2 vehicles at or near each site.  Additional vehicles are permitted at a charge of $5.00 per vehicle per night. Additional vehicles may be required to park in an overflow lot located across from site 49.

Site 1

Park across the street and walk approximately 90 feet down the pathway to this beautiful lakeside tent campsite. The site is open and sunny with a picnic table and fire ring. This tent campsite offers excellent lakeside access. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 2

Park across the street slightly past the walking path of approximately 120 feet down to this wooded and secluded tent campsite. A picnic table and fire ring are provided on the site. This tent site offers a beautiful lake view and easy access to the water’s edge via a very short walking path. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 3

Park across the street and walk approximately 150 feet onto this wooded and secluded lakeside tent campsite. This site offers a beautiful lake view with easy lakeside access via a short walking path. A picnic table and fire ring are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 4

Park on the road and walk the approximately 240 feet path onto this secluded lakeside tent campsite. This tent campsite offers lakeside access. A fire ring and picnic table are provided, as well as a 12’x14’ wooden platform for your tent. This site has limited level ground area for your tent: use of the platform is recommended.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

Site 5

Park on the road and walk approximately 150 feet onto this beautiful lakeside tent campsite. This large, flat site provides excellent lakeside access.  A fire ring and picnic table are provided.

 

Site 6

Park on the road and walk approximately 120 feet onto this beautiful lakeside tent campsite. This large, flat site provides excellent lakeside access. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.

 

Site 7

Park across the road and walk the approximately 120 feet pathway onto this wooded campsite which offers a beautiful lake view and easy lakeside access via a short walking path. A picnic table and fire ring are provided. This tent campsite is within close walking proximity of both restrooms and potable water pumps. Campsite 8 is also located very close to this site and is accessible by a short walking path.

Site 8

Park on the road and walk approximately 150 feet along a path to this lakeside tent campsite. This sunny site offers direct lakeside access. A picnic table and fire ring are provided on the site. Restrooms and water pumps are within a short walking distance from this site. Campsite 7 is also nearby via a short pathway.

 

Site 9

With on-site parking, this large site is suitable for pop-u campers, travel trailers, and tent campers. This site offers a lake view and easy lakeside access via a short walking path. A fire ring and picnic table are provided on this site. Neighboring site 10 is also easily accessible by a short walking path.

 

Site 10

Park on the road and take this approximately 300 feet pathway to this large, flat, tent campsite which offers a beautiful lake view. A fire ring and picnic table are provided. This tent site is within close proximity to its neighboring site 9 via a short pathway between the two sites.

 

Site 11

Parking on the road, sites 10 through 14 are accessible via a pathway approximately 360 feet in length. These nicely sized tent campsites are clustered fairly close together, making them a good choice if you are camping with another group (all quiet hours, maximum occupancy, and visitor rules will apply). Tent campsites 110 through 14 all offer excellent lakeside access. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.

This spacious tent site offers a view of Sawmill Lake and easy lakeside access.  A picnic table and fire ring are provided on the site. The trail head for the Blue Dot Trail is directly across from this site.

 

Site 16

This spacious wooded campsite is suitable for pop-up campers, travel trailers, and tent campers as it allows on-site parking. Due to new forest growth, the lake view may be limited during the summer season. However, a short walking path provides easy access to the lake itself. Campsite 17 is also nearby via a small walking path.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 17

This spacious, flat site is suitable for pop-up campers, travel trailers, and tent camping as it allows on-site parking. It offers easy lakeside access via a small walking path; however, the lake view is limited during the summer season due to new growth. A fire ring and picnic table are provided. Campsite 16 is nearby and easily accessible by a short walking path.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

  

Site 18

Park on the road and walk the approximately 150 feet pathway over a wooden bridge to access this spacious wooded campsite. Campsite 18 offers a view of Sawmill lake. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 19

This large, flat campsite offers on-site parking making it easily accessible to pop-up campers, travel trailers, and tent campers. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided, however there is ample room for additional equipment. This site has access to the lake via a small pathway, however the view is limited during the summer season because of new growth. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.

 

Site 20

Park across the road and walk approximately 300 feet to this tent campsite. This lakeside campsite is wooded and secluded with a beautiful full lake view. There is no access to the lake directly from this site. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.

 

Site 21

This small tent site allows on-site parking. Although it is lakeside, there is a limited lake view due to its distance from the water’s edge. A walking path provides access to the lakeside. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided as the site is rock with limited level ground. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.

 

Site 22

On-site parking and close proximity to restrooms and water pumps makes this tent site appealing to some campers. This large wooded site does have a 12’ x 14’ wooden platform as well as additional ground space for moderately sized tent. The lake view is limited during the summer season due to the new forest growth, but the lakeside is easily accessible via a small walking path from the site. The nearby campsite 23 is also easily accessible via a small walking path between the two sites. A fire ring and picnic table are provided

 

Site 23

On-site parking and close proximity to restrooms and water pumps make this tent site appealing to some campers. Although this site is lakeside, due to new forest growth the lake view is limited during the summer season. A fire ring and picnic table are provided. Nearby is campsite 22 which is easily accessible by a small walking path.

 

Site 24

Park on the road and walk the approximately 225 feet pathway to this spacious tent campsite. With almost full sun, this large open site is one of the few that is grassy. A full lake view and lakeside access make this site very popular. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided, however there is ample level ground available for multiple tents. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 25

Park on the road and walk the approximately 225 feet winding pathway to this spacious sunny campsite. With access to almost full sun make this site moderately grassy, and the level flat ground makes it easily accessible for tents or trailers. Due to the new forest growth this site has a limited view of the lake during the summer season. However, a small walking path provides easy access to the lake side. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 26

On-site parking makes this site suitable for pop-up campers, travel trailers, and tent campers. This site is spacious, level, and receives almost full sun which makes it moderately grassy. Due to new forest growth, this site has a limited lake view during the summer season. However, a small walking path provides easy access to the lake side. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 27

On-site parking makes this wooded lakeside tent campsite appealing to many campers.  This site is quite sunny. Due to new forest growth the lake view is somewhat limited during the summer season; however, a small pathway provides lakeside access. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform provides a level area to pitch your tent on this otherwise gravel site. A fire ring and picnic table are provided. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 28

This wooded, secluded tent campsite offers on-site parking providing easy vehicle access. A   12’ x 14’ platform is provided as there is limited level area to pitch a tent. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.

 

Site 29

This tent campsite offers on-site parking for easy vehicle access. A 12’ x14’ wooden platform is provided as the site is very rocky with limited level ground space for pitching a tent. A fire ring and picnic table are provided. This wooded campsite is very close to tent campsite 30 with a short walking path between the two. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 30

Park on the road and walk a pathway approximately 105 feet to this tent campsite. This site is a very rock and the 12’ x 14’ wooden platform must be used as there is no other level area for tent setup. This wooded site offers a picnic table and fire ring. Site 30 is located directly behind site 29 and the two sites are connected by a small walking path. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 31

Park on the road and walk approximately 75 feet to this tent site. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided and must be used due to limited level ground on this site. A picnic table and fire ring are provided. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 32

Park on the road and walk the pathway approximately 135 feet to this secluded tent campsite. A picnic table and fire ring are provided. This is a pet friendly campsite.

Site 33

Park on the road and walk approximately 150 feet down the slightly winding pathway to this wooded and secluded tent campsite. A picnic table and fire ring are provided. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 34

Park on the road and walk across a little wooden bridge over a small stream approximately 90 feet to this secluded wooden tent campsite. This site is very rocky and multiple tents are discouraged. This is a pet friendly campsite.

A fire ring and picnic table are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 38

Clustered in close proximity and accessible via a single pathway, tent campsites 37, 38, and 39 are wooded and secluded. Parking for all three is on the road and an approximately 225 feet pathway leads to the campsites. These secluded clustered sites are a good choice if you are camping with another family (all quiet hours, maximum occupancy, and visitor rules apply). A fire ring and picnic table are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 39

Clustered in close proximity and accessible via a single pathway, tent campsites 37, 38, and 39 are wooded and secluded. Parking for all three is on the road and an approximately 225 feetpathway leads to the campsites. These secluded clustered sites are a good choice if you are camping with another family (all quiet hours, maximum occupancy, and visitor rules apply). A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided on the campsite as it is fairly rocky with limited level ground. A picnic table and fire ring are also provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 40

Park across the road and walk approximately 240 feet down a winding path and over a small wooden bridge to this campsite that is wooded and secluded. This site is fairly rock and a 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided and should be utilized as there is limited level ground on the site. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 41

This wooded, semi-secluded tent campsite allows on-site parking for easy vehicle access and is within close proximity to restrooms and water pumps. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided as well as a picnic table and fire ring. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 42

Park on the road and walk the winding pathway approximately 150 feet onto this wooded and secluded campsite. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided as the site is rocky with limited level ground. A fire ring and picnic table are provided. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 43

This tent campsite offers on-site parking giving you easy access to your vehicle. Additionally, potable water pumps and restrooms are within close proximity of this site.  A picnic table and fire ring are provided. This is a pet friendly campsite.

Site 44

On-site parking for easy vehicle access along with close proximity to restrooms and potable water pumps makes this wooded tent site appealing to many campers. a 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided as the site is somewhat rocky. A fire ring and picnic table are provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 45

Site 46

On-site parking and fairly level ground make this semi-secluded campsite suitable for pop-up campers, travel trailers, and tent camping. This campsite has a short walk to the restrooms and potable water pumps. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform, picnic table, and fire ring are provided. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 47

On-site parking and level ground make this site accessible to pop-up campers, travel trailers, and tent campers. This wooded and secluded site includes a 12’ x 14’ wooden platform, fire ring, and picnic table. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 48

On-site parking on this wooded and secluded campsite provides easy access to your vehicle. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided as the ground is rocky. A picnic table and fire ring are also provided.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 49

On-site parking makes this site suitable for pop-up campers, travel trailers, and tent campers. This wooded and secluded site does have a 12’ x 14’ wooden platform; however, there is also level ground available for your camping equipment. A picnic table and fire ring are provided. This is a pet friendly campsite.

 

Site 50

This fairly level cap site offers on-site parking. The wooded and secluded site is suitable for pop-up campers, travel trailers, and tent campers. A 12’ x 14’ wooden platform is provided; however, ground space for tents is also available. A fire ring and picnic table are included.  This is a pet friendly campsite.

Pets are only permitted on our pet friendly campsites.

DIRECTIONS: From the Park Office, take Route 23 North for about 1/4 mile. Turn Left onto Sawmill Road. Follow Sawmill Road for about 2 miles and Sawmill Camping Area will be on your left. The campground loop is one-way. You will pass the exit and the entrance will be shortly ahead on your left. 

There is no water, electric or sewer available at tent sites.  Water pumps and toilets are located within walking distance of all sites.  There are no sinks or running water in the bathrooms.

Trailer sites vary in size, if you are concerned about fitting your equipment on a certain site please call the Park Office.

There is room to park 2 regular vehicles at or near each site.  Additional vehicles are permitted at a charge of $5.00 per vehicle per night. Additional vehicles may be required to park in an overflow lot located across from site 49.
