The New Jersey Public Works Contractor Registration Act requires all contractors, subcontractors, or lower tier subcontractors to register with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development prior to bidding on or engaging in any work in the State of New Jersey for which the payment of prevailing wage is required in the state of New Jersey. When you apply for a Certificate, you should have several items handy. You will need the business’s FEIN, a credit card or e-check information, Workers’ Compensation policy number and effective and expiration dates, and if you keep your payroll records outside of New Jersey, payroll information. Having these documents handy will make your application process faster and easier.

The fee structure for Public Works Contractor Registration is as follows: $500 for a first-time Certificate or a one-year Certificate renewal, $750 for a two-year Certificate renewal. In addition to this fee, there is a service fee of $4 plus a fee of 1.9% if you are using a credit card.
